Strange Bedfellows turns to stage

Press release from Instinct Entertainment

It started as the award-winning, highest-grossing Australian Film of 2004 and now Strange Bedfellows is set to become a new Stage Musical! starring all-time favourite Gold Logie Winner, JOHN WOOD (Blue Heelers, Rafferty’s Rules) alongside Australia’s award winning star of London’s West End, PETER COUSENS (Phantom of The Opera [The Phantom], Les Miserables, West Side Story)

Produced by Instinct Entertainment, Spencer McLaren (Beauty and the Beast, Cats, The Secret Life of Us, ) and the border’s Dean Murphy (Charlie & Boots, Strange Bedfellows, Till Human Voices Wake Us) this multi-million dollar production will be the biggest theatrical event ever to play the Border.

This production will be co-presented by the Albury Wodonga Theatre Co. and utilize some of the best local talent on offer, supporting some of Australia’s finest professional talent.

Based on the film’s original screenplay, the musical is being written for the stage by acclaimed writer Jon Stephens (Mull, Silver Brumby, Blue Heelers) and the extraordinary composer John Foreman (Australian Idol, Carols By Candlelight, The Sydney Olympics)

Directed by the award winning, former artistic director of the Melbourne Theatre Company Roger Hodgman (Guys & Dolls, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Annie Get your Gun), Strange Bedfellows has assembled one of the finest production teams in Australia including choreographer Dana Jolly (The Producers, We Will Rock You, Show Boat) and Musical director Kellie Dickerson (Wicked, The Producers, The Witches of Eastwick).

With a cast, crew and orchestra of over 80 people, this multi million dollar production will have it’s world premiere season in the stunning Albury Regent Theatre on October 29, 2010.

Quotes:

I love the Border region and to be a part of this exciting new show in the grand old Regent Theatre will be tremendous fun.
John Wood (Ralph)

The script is hilarious and the music by John Foreman is terrific. It’s going to be an enormously entertaining show.
Peter Cousens – (Vince)

It’s very exciting to be a part of this new Australian Musical. I am looking forward to working with a great team, including the many very talented locals we have found. Strange Bedfellows will be a great night out, and a great chance to see an all Australian cast at the top of their game.
Roger Hodgman (Director)

It is a real testament to the strength of Albury’s cultural reputation that the producers have chosen to bring the show here. Blockbuster musicals rank highly alongside major events like the Australian Open, the Deni Ute Muster and the start of the Boxing Day Test match, in drawing thousands of interstate visitors ensuring that the tourism industry, hotels, restaurants and other associated industries are busy throughout the season. This is a great opportunity for all in our entire region.
Cr Alice Glachan (Mayor – Albury City)

‘Being born and bred on the border, and having shot Strange Bedfellows in Yackandandah, it’s a great thrill that we are now going to produce the World Premiere season of the musical here.’
Dean Murphy (Producer)

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to re-instate the theatre (what most people know as Cinema 1) back to the days of live shows. To again have over 1100 people watching a live production like this complete with live orchestra will be a great thrill.”
Tony Smith (Owner, Regent Cinemas)

** More exciting cast will be announced over the coming weeks.
